Positive feedback from YWCA pilot of e-learning with adolescent girls

As phase one of our work with YWCA begins, we are proud to be hearing such positive feedback from the initial pilot of our e-learning materials. The experience was overwhelmingly positive; pictures and illustrations made the material easy to follow, and participants particularly appreciated the quiz.

Mwabu is currently working with YWCA to introduce e-learning as an element of their training for adolescents in reproductive health, life skills and financial literacy. The pilot in Senanga delivered five training sessions to 25 adolescent girls from three different communities, using existing e-learning materials on financial literacy, previously developed by Mwabu for FSDZ.

The experience was overwhelmingly positive; most of the girls could follow the instructions; pictures and illustrations made the material easy to follow, and participants particularly appreciated the quiz at the end as a good summary of their learning.

Approximately 60% of the girls in the pilot group had an education level of G6 and above and were still in school. They found the English language units clear and simple to understand. However, 40% of the girls were no longer in school or were from more remote rural areas and they did not have the level of English to access the content in a meaningful way. (Their first language is Lozi and materials are available in only English and Nyanja.)

Further pilots will be undertaken in YWCA centres located in Katete and Lusaka District.

Findings from the pilot are informing the development of a new interactive e-learning module for YWCA, covering introductory topics from their Safe Spaces training, such as self-esteem and goal setting. More news on this to follow soon!
